In the spring of 2006, American Airline's Senior 777 Captain
Bill Weatherspoon contacted Jerry Temple Aviation (JTA) to discuss the purchase
of an airplane. The Cessna 310 he
had in mind would be his first airplane. Scheduled
to retire in a few months, Captain Weatherspoon had flown just about every
aircraft type American has used in the past thirty years.
Of particular concern to Bill was the fact that he’d been
away from general aviation and operations for thirty years.
Attending The Twin Cessna Flyer Organization's May ’06 2-day Engine
Seminar and 2-day Systems Operations Seminar exposed Bill to this excellent
owners group, but also confirmed just how much there is to know about twin
Cessna’s and the value of professional support.
Needless to say, piloting a wide-body airliner to Europe or
Japan is a different way of flying. After
determining that a normally aspirated 310Q was probably going to be the best
aircraft for the Weatherspoon family’s needs, a Garmin equipped, fully deiced
310Q was located.
Bill and Jerry Temple picked up the aircraft from its New
England owner and flew it to Bridgeport, CT for a comprehensive pre-purchase
inspection. Upon completion of the
purchase, a dual instruction delivery flight to Dallas was flown.
After some typical post-sale maintenance, additional dual training was
conducted. Having checked out jumbo
jet pilots before, Jerry Temple was ready for the initial landing flare at 100
feet. But, hard work and sweat
brought the expected results. Today
Captain Weatherspoon and his family are enjoying their Cessna 310Q.
JTA appreciates the letter and photos from Captain Weatherspoon.
